Toyota Supra Successor Confirmed

Rumors of a Toyota Supra revival have been circulating for years, but engineer Tetsuya Tada has confirmed Toyota President Akio Toyoda has asked him to "make a successor to the Supra as soon as possible."

Speaking with Asia One, Tada said the company has approved two new sports cars which will be positioned above and below the GT 86. Tada already confirmed one of them will be the Supra revival, but the other remains a bit of a mystery.

A timetable hasn't been set, but Tada said "The GT 86 needed five years to develop, so at least five years is required for the others." The Supra successor will take priority, so the entry-level sports car is likely a ways off.

Supra might be developed in partnership with Tesla and could then be an all-electric sports car.

Toyota recalls 7.43 million cars

Toyota says it is recalling 7.43 million vehicles globally, including the U.S., Japan and Europe, for a faulty power-window switch that may stop working in more than a dozen models, produced from 2005 through 2010.

Toyota said that the switch on the driver's side didn't have grease applied evenly during production, causing friction and sometimes smoke. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to the problem.

In total European market, this operation involves about 1.4 million units, while in the United States and in China the number reaches 2.47 million cars and 1.4 million, respectively.

Toyota Avalon exclusively for the U.S. market

Toyota has recently unveiled the 2013 Avalon at the 2012 New York Auto Show.

According to the Japanese carmaker, the redesigned model is slightly smaller than its predecessor. It features a redesigned front fascia with HID headlights, steeply raked windshield, a massive air intake and a wider grille. There's also an integrated trunk spoiler, a dual exhaust system, LED combination tail lamps and 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels.

The 2013 Avalon brings more space for the passengers, both in the front and the back. Toyota also says they’ve improved the ride comfort and the handling of the sedan. It now features three distinctive driving modes (Normal, Eco and Sport) that change throttle and steering feel.
Toyota declined to release engine specifications.

Avalon will be produced at Toyota's plant Georgetown and is scheduled to go on sale later this year.

Toyota GT-86 sports coupe

After teasing for many years, Toyota’s finally given us the production version of its long-awaited GT 86…
Toyota's finally given us some pictures of the GT 86 - its jazzy new coupe that'll debut at this week's Tokyo Motor. And how long have we been waiting? Since 2009. 2009.

And what's with the new name? Firstly, and for no obvious reason, Toyota's ditched the F and hyphen. Secondly, they've added RULES. Europeans get the GT 86, in Japan it'll be the 86  and America gets the Scion FR-S.

Power for the GT 86 sits at 197bhp (at 7,000rpm) and 151lb ft of torque, which, Toyota claims, gives it "brisk, engaging performance", while the weight-distribution is near perfect at 53:47 front-to-rear.
Underneath, both the GT 86 and BRZ have limited-slip differentials and independent suspension all round, though the GT 86 is a little more drift-boy focused - its stability control allows some tail-wagging before it tells you off.
